In 1973, Gen. Augusto Pinochet overtook Chile in a violent coup. During his 17-year rule, he gained a reputation as one of the world’s most oppressive dictators. This new HBO Film tells the fascinating story of Pinochet’s surprise arrest for crimes against humanity in 1998. Then retired, the 82-year-old former dictator went to Great Britain for a vacation that was to forever change his life—and the prospects for dictators across the globe.
