A young police detective is assigned to a brutal murder case in her hometown. When her brother becomes the prime suspect, she is forced to confront the demons of her past.

Germany 1772 - After aspiring poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe fails his law exams, he's sent to a sleepy provincial court to reform and soon wins the praise and friendship of his superior Kestne. But then Lotte enters his life and nothing is the same as before. However, the young lovers are unaware that her father has already promised Lotte's hand to another man.

Around the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a policeman goes undercover to reveal a possible political coup in the Zurich Schauspielhaus.
