With WWII raging elsewhere in 1943 Italy, a young man's carefree summer in seaside Rimini gives way to a passionate affair with an older war widow.

Based on the play by Euripides. The Greek goddess Athena is angry at the city of Thebes, so she decides to dry up all the wells causing a massive drought. In order to save the city, King Pentheus has to make a human sacrifice and choses to sacrifice Teiresias' daughter, Manto. However, the Greek god Dionysus intervenes and saves the girl.
