The streets of the world's most notorious slum, Rio de Janeiro's City of God, are a place where combat photographers fear to tread, police rarely go and residents are lucky if they live to the age of 20. In the midst of the oppressive crime and violence, a frail and scared young boy will grow up to discover that he can view the harsh realities of his surroundings with an artistic eye.

This film documentary investigates the fate of the young actors of the award winning film City of God by Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund. It shows how their lives unfolded after the film's worldwide success.

​Set two decades after the events of the highly acclaimed 2002 film, this six-episode series follows the lives of residents in Rio de Janeiro's City of God. As the series begins, the notorious favela is trapped in a bitter dispute between rival drug dealers and the paramilitary police, who have been occupying nearby areas and threaten to enter the COG. As violence erupts in the streets, self-serving politicians and businesspeople hoping to profit off drugs and weapons flowing into the area conspire to fan the flames of the conflict. But when a beloved member of the community is killed in the crossfire, the City of God comes together to unite around a vocal new leader, who vows to stand up to corruption and keep their community safe.
