Set in California in 1975 in a Vietnamese refugee camp, tells the story of Tai Tran (Don Duong), who has the courage to introduce himself to Sergeant Jim Lance (Patrick Swayze), and manages to eventually improve conditions and communications in the camp.

A China-born teenage living in Nebraska journeys to San Francisco to figure out her 4-month pregnancy and personal, cultural struggle in deciding.

Desperately seeking to save his marriage, Brendan goes to the nail salon every day where Tam does more than scrub his hands clean of the oil stains from working as a mechanic. She offers him advice on how win his wife's love again. But soon, they find themselves drawn to each other, an attraction which becomes harder and harder to resist.
