It is here that he encounters the majestic and sensuous leopard Simoon, who saves him from certain death, teaching him the secrets of the ancient sandy valleys. But the real war is waiting on the horizon, in the form of Augustan's former regiment, which threatens his bond with his saviour Simoon.
