Valentine leaves Verona for Milan, and Proteus is reluctant to join him as he has fallen in love with Julia. Proteus eventually joins Valentine in Milan, Valentine shares the news that he has fallen in love with the duke’s daughter and plans to elope with her. Proteus meets the daughter of the duke, Silvia, and promptly falls in love with her, too, forgetting Julia.
