A transgender woman attempts to salvage her life, devastated by love, by confronting her tormented past. She seeks acceptance from former acquaintances and, crucially, from herself.

This is the account of the tragedy which befell a group of East Germans, in particular Clara and her lover Artur. It is all the more tragic in that they were young and hopeful. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. They came as friends and became sausage.

Chinese Roulette, set in an isolated house during a weekend break, is like Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None without the murders - a tense psychodrama in which infidelities are revealed and families breakdown. At its centre is nouvelle vague icon Anna Karina, a rare outsider alongside the familiar Fassbinder faces.
