At the start of WWI, an American boy living in a small French village falls in love with a young girl but as the battle nears and they become separated, he is forced to go behind German enemy lines in order to rescue the woman he loves.

After he murders his wife's lovers, a man flees to the South Pacific with his daughter to start a new life, but a detective is on his trail.
