In 1966, director Shirley Clarke spent twelve hours with the one-and-only Jason Holliday where she confronted the iconic performer about his good times and bad behavior as a gay hustler, on-and-off houseboy, and aspiring cabaret performer. As the cameras rolled, Holliday spun tales, sang songs, and donned costumes through the night, creating a mesmerizing portrait of a remarkable man.

Varda’s cult classic contemplates freedom, film and fantasy as the ’60s “Summer of Love” turns sour.
