Lemon Tree
(2008)Reuniting the director and star of the international hit SYRIAN BRIDE, Eran Riklis and Hiam Abbass (MUNICH, THE VISITOR), LEMON TREE was nominated for 7 Israeli Oscars and 2 European Film Awards (for Actress and Screenplay). Salma (Abbass), a Palestinian widow who lives on the border between Israel and the West Bank, stands up to her new neighbor, the Israeli Defense Minister (Doron Tavori) when he moves into his new house opposite her lemon grove. Israeli security forces declare Salma's trees a threat and orders them uprooted. With her young Palestinian lawyer, Salma goes all the way to the Israeli Supreme Court to try to save her trees. This raises the interest of Mira Navon (Rona Lipaz-Michael), the Defense Minister's wife, who is trapped in her new home and unhappy life. The women develop a bond while Salma's journey leads her into the complex, dark, sometimes funny struggle in the Middle East. From IFC Films.
